A patent is a document issued by a State which describes an invention and gives exclusives rights to the claimant about its industrial exploitation at a certain time.
Patents include all new products or procedures that imply a technological advance, as a consequence of intellectual activity.
Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru have a common regulation regarding patents, due to the integration of the Andean Community of Nations. In the Andean Community of Nations, the conditions of patentability are common: novelty, inventive step or non-obviousness, and industrial application.
The Andean Community includes Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. Recently, Venezuela left this contract. Andean Community has a regional regulation about patents titled ‘Decisión 486 de 2000’.
